Stinson Mountain

Hiked April 8, 2006 by Tim and Valerie

Conditions:  Ha ha!  We were totally taken off guard by the snow on Stinson Mt.  There was no snow at the bottom, just MUD.  As we climbed higher, we got significant snow and LARGE slabs of slick ice (three inches thick) on the trail.  Thankfully, our down coats were in our packs (don't leave home without 'em).  Passed a troop of Boy Scouts who were coming down the trail as we were headed up.  Some of them were in sneakers, but they were moving pretty fast.  I don't know how they do it.  We didn't have our YakTrax with us, and those would have helped immensely.

Views from the top were way better than anticipated.  There are some remains from an old fire tower there.  Just the concrete footers remain.

Stats: 3.6 miles round trip. 1400 ft of elevation gain.
