Hiked April 2, 2006 by Tim, Valerie, Debi, Heather and Will
Conditions: Dry weather for weeks (and lack of snow through the winter) means that we can walk without mud in early April. Weather was chilly at the start, but great for hiking. Considering that I got the stats wrong for this hike, and it ended up being quite a bit farther than I expected, everyone did great! We started at South Pack, in the parking lot at the top. We hiked over to North Pack and then back again. At one point, we all just laid down on some warm rocks in the sun and took a break.
Heather and Will learned two new words/phrases and used them at every opportunity: Cairn and False Summit. We seemed to find a whole lot of false summits on the way back to South Pack. The kids were in great spirits for this walk. We even hiked to the top of the fire tower after we got back to the car.
Stats: about 5 miles round trip, no time charted.
