North and Middle Tripyramid

Hiked by: Tim and Valerie on July 22, 2007 - via Sabbaday Brook Trail to Mt Tripyramid Trail

Conditions: The hike involved walking for about 4 miles up the valley of Sabbaday Brook.  We crossed the water at least seven times.  It was so green, it looked live elves should live there.  It was warm and a bit buggy.

After the 4 miles in the valley, with relatively good footing and gentle slopes, we reached the last mile before the ridge.  At this point, the trail got steep and contained some scree and also some flat slabs that needed to be approached more carefully.  After much huffing and pufing, we were at the junction with the Mt Tripyramid trail.  We quickly went out to North Tripyramid, 0.5 miles in one direction, found a wooded, unmarked summit.  We only knew we were there because other people were coming up from the North Slide and they were also still climbing to the top.  When we met each other on the trail, we decided we must have arrived.

After a short snack, surrounded by deerflies, and some photos, we headed back down towards Middle Tripyramid.  Surprisingly, we had this summit to ourselves for a few minutes.  We probably saw 20 people on the short ridge walks back and forth between North and Middle Tripyramid.

Eventually, we headed back down the Sabbaday Brook Trail.  When we arrived back in the parking lot, it was full to overflowing with tourists who had stopped to see Sabbaday Falls.  These are the non-hiking type of tourists.  The ones who don't return your smile or your polite "Hello".  It was distressing.

Tim is dreaming of the day that Val agrees to do the North Slide.

Stats for the day: 11.4 miles
