Hiked by: Tim and Valerie on January 20, 2008 - via Mt Morgan Trail
Conditions: Arrived at the parking lot about 10AM. The day was beautiful but brisk. We started out at about 18 degrees F with no wind. The trail was solidly-packed. We used Stabilicers all the way up. There were a couple small stretches where the Stabilicers were just barely enough grip. More on that later. We passed 4 people and one big golden retriever during our trip up.
The day was gorgeous - blue skies everywhere. The lake was frozen, and we could see the shadows of clouds moving across the ice. The temperature at the summit was 23 degrees F but the wind was picking up. We switched into our Katoolahs for the trip down. They were overkill for some portions of the trail, but those small stretches that were really steep were much more navigable with them. It just made us feel more comfortable.
As we made our descent, the temperature got colder and colder, and the winder got stronger. At the car, it was 13 degrees with a consistent breeze. We also saw/heard a chainsaw at work in the woods when we were just a few minutes from the car. Time to go home before the Patriots game starts.
