Mt Moosilauke

Hiked by: Debi, Tim and Valerie on July 19, 2009 via Gorge Brook Trail, Carriage Trail and Snapper Trail

Conditions: We needed one more warm-up hike before Seek-the-Peak, so we chose Mt Moosilauke.  We were hopeful that Debi's string of bad luck (read as: fogged in summits) would break today.

There were dozens and dozens of cars parked on the Ravine Lodge Road as we started our walk.  The trail was very good and we had great conversation throughout the day.

We stopped at the first viewpoint for a snack and some pictures.

Soon, we reached the tree line.  We put on another layer of clothes to combat the wind, and then headed up!  The summit of Moosilauke is wonderful because it's so broad and open - just acres and acres!  Although the skies weren't "bluebird", the clouds *did* stay above us and we could see all the surrounding mountains.

After our summit shots, we found a nook in the corner of the old building foundation and had some lunch.  Then we headed out via the Carriage Trail.  This trail is absolutely not as scenic, but we moved fast and we were chatting mostly about work-related issues.  The descent went extremely fast and after a very short time we were turning onto the Snapper Trail.  We continued our hike back to the car in what must have been record time for us.  It felt like a short walk through the woods - no issues at all!  Very nice!

Congratulations to Debi for NH48 #6!
