Mt Major

Hiked December 10, 2005 by Tim and Valerie

Conditions: This was the first real hike that we did on our snowshoes.  We took the "main trail" from the parking lot (an old logging road) and then turned left onto the blue-blazed trail at 0.75 miles.  We were the first people to hike the blue-blazed trail since it had snowed.  The snowshoes did pretty well.  The last 100 yards was *too steep* for the snowshoes, and made for some very nervous moments for Valerie.

The views of Lake Winnipesauke were breath-taking, as was the wind at the top.  The remains of a shelter can still be seen there (the rest of it blew away - no lie!).

Stats:  3.5 miles round trip,  1000 ft elevation gain
